Elder Care Network was established in 1996 to improve the way we care for elders in Lincoln County by developing a model of small, family-style, wellness-focused, community-centered assisted living homes for rural Maine communities. Although there were several private facilities available in the county, those elders with limited income were forced to leave their home communities to find an assisted living home.
The founders developed a model that emphasized small, family-style groups, a focus on independence and self-management and care and assistance with daily living as needed.
The first home, Hodgdon Green on Hodgdon Street in Damariscotta, opened in April 1998. Between 1998 and 2010, we opened 6 smaller village care homes in Boothbay, Edgecomb, Jefferson, Round Pond, Waldoboro, and Wiscasset. Boothbay Green was closed in December 2020 due to shortage of care staff.
